At a House Ways and Means Subcommittees on Oversight and Social Security in March of 2004, IRS Commissioner Mark Everson, testified that the principle mission of the service is to collect taxes and to cultivate a climate of taxpayer cooperation. He made it clear that sharing information with the Department of Homeland Security would drive illegal aliens and their taxes underground.
